Introduction
The Bible is packed full of pictures. We call them types or symbols and they are there for a wonderful purpose -- to teach us and to guide us. Now, some folks are a bit averse to dealing with Biblical types and symbols because they can be perversely used to create meanings that God never intended.
Bible word-pictures, however, used correctly, just thrill me and I love to ponder them. I love to see the Master at work in His beautiful Word. Obviously, understanding what God has said explicitly is our first priority. We must seek to know Him and obey Him from what is the “plain sense” meaning we read in the Word. Rightly dividing the Word however, is not limited to this for we learn that God is VERY much into pictures - in the book of Hebrews, chapter eight, we read that the whole tabernacle and its furniture were types or pictures of the heavenly. God told Moses to make it all “according to pattern” for this very reason.
The key to seeing and understanding these types is whether or not they are supported throughout the scriptures. The Word will interpret itself. It’s also important not to base dogma on what you may think you see as a type or picture. Solid doctrine is founded upon what is explicit or what is widely accepted from the implicit in the Bible.
Now, the entirety of Scripture is focused upon One Person -- the Messiah. It is He Whom I want to glorify and point you to. I hope what you read herein will give birth to or nurture a deep love for Him, for He loves you, boundlessly.
